The following article discusses how to use the VPN client on Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista.
This article assumes that you have a properly installed and configured wireless network adapter on your Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista-based computer. If you have not yet installed or configured your wireless adapter, first follow the instructions provided by your wireless network card manufacturer, then return to these instructions. If you are having problems with the installation or configuration of your wireless network card, contact the manufacturer of your wireless network adapter.
This article also assumes that you have successfully installed and configured the VPN client. If you have not installed or configured the VPN client, first follow the instructions in the article "Installing the VPN Client", then return to these instructions.
Using the VPN Client
- Start the Juniper VPN client by clicking on 'Start' -> 'Programs' -> 'Juniper Networks' -> 'Network Connect 6.4.0 (or whatever version) -> 'Network Connect'.
First time login the "Sign-in Page" will be blank. Type "vpn.siu.edu" (without the quotes) and click Go.
For every time after that the client will remember your connection and look like the following image.NOTE :
You must have a current Anti-Virus program with an active subscription and be current with the updates.
You must also have your software firewall turned on.
Without these you will fail the requirements and therefore never get the login page below
- Once you login the following screen will appear for a few seconds
(should disappear to the taskbar in less than 10 seconds).NOTE : The client will automatically update itself when it is needed after you successfully login. The update will only appear on the screen for a few seconds and then disappear. It will not show back up unless there is another update needed.
- Once you have connected successfully the 'locked padlock' icon will appear in your system tray.
- You may now visit sites with your web browser, check your email and connect and use the services available via the internet.
Disconnecting from the SIUC Wireless Network
- Right-click on the 'locked padlock' icon in the system tray, select 'Sign Out'.
- The 'locked padlock' icon will disappear from the system tray.
- You have successfully disconnected the VPN client and no longer have access to the SIUC Wireless network.
