Steps for logging on for wireless internet access with the new VPN System
The new VPN system for wireless internet access campus-wide requires you to have a Network ID, aka DawgTag. For students who already know your Network ID, then skip the next section (if you already have an SIU e-mail account, or you have accessed other computer labs across campus such as Morris Library or Faner, then you already have a Network ID. Your login information is the same).
- Look for the Network Connect icon in the Applications :
(image below)
- First time use:
Type "vpn.siu.edu" (without the quotes) and hit enter
The Network Connect client will remember this entry for future use.
- When the "Do you want the application "Network Connect.app" pops up, click "Allow" :
- Another pop-up window will come up. Click on "Allow all applets from 'vpn.siu.edu' access" and then click on Allow.
This is a dedicated security device and for full functionality is a requirement. This is SAFE.
- Once the Host Checker is finished you will be prompted with a login window.
Put your "SIU DawgTag" ID and password and click "Sign In"NOTE : The client will automatically update itself when it is needed after you successfully login. The update will only appear on the screen for a few seconds and then disappear. It will not show back up unless there is another update needed.
- Once you are successfully logged in you see a window like the following.
Disconnecting from the SIUC Wireless Network
- When you are done using your computer, be sure to click on "Sign Out" in the upper right-hand corner of the dialog box to log off. Otherwise, additional people may use the internet logged in under your account:
- A pop-up will come up asking are you sure you want to Sign Out. Click "Sign Out".
- When you see the following image you have successfully Logged Out of the VPN.
