The following article discusses how to install the VPN client on Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista.
This article assumes that you have a properly installed and configured wireless network adapter on your Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows Vista-based computer. If you have not yet installed or configured your wireless adapter, first follow the instructions provided by your wireless network card manufacturer, then return to these instructions.
Installation of the VPN Client
- Create a folder on your desktop named 'Wireless VPN'.
- Download the VPN client for Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista.
Save the file to the 'Wireless VPN' folder you created in step 1.

- You will also need to download a profile to enable your VPN connection.
Save the profile to the 'Wireless VPN' folder you created in step 1.
'Right-click' on the appropriate link below and use 'Save As' to download the profile.

Staff/Faculty Profile
Other Profile
Vendor Profile
- Open the 'Wireless VPN' folder you created in step 1.
- Start the VPN client installation by 'double-clicking' on the setup file:
vpnclient-win-msi-4.8.01.0300-k9.exe
or
vpnclient-win-msi-5.0.00.0340-k9.exe
- At the 'WinZIP Self-Extractor' prompt, click on 'unzip'.
- The setup file will self-extract and begin installation of the VPN client.
- At the 'Welcome to the Cisco Systems VPN Client X.X.XX Installation Wizard' prompt, click on 'Next >'.
- At the 'License Agreement' prompt, select the option 'I accept the license agreement', then click 'Next >'.
 
- At the 'Destination Folder' prompt, click 'Next >'.
- At the 'Ready to Install the Application' prompt, click 'Next >' to begin the installation.
- The VPN client installation may take several minutes.
- At the 'Cisco Systems VPN Client X.X.X has been successfully installed' prompt, click 'Finish' to exit the installation.
- Click 'Yes' if requested to restart your computer.
- Once your computer has rebooted, start the Cisco VPN client by clicking on 'Start' -> 'Programs' -> 'Cisco Systems VPN Client' -> 'VPN Client'.
- Click the 'Import' icon on the toolbar.
- Locate the 'Wireless VPN' folder you created in step 1, select the Student, Staff or Other profile you downloaded in step 3, then click 'Open'.
- At the 'VPN connection entry was successfully imported' prompt, click 'OK'.
- You have successfully configured the VPN client.
- You may now exit the VPN client application.
- You may safely delete the 'Wireless VPN' folder you created in step 1.
